Daylesford Lake - Review

Due to leaking and risk of collapse the Daylesford Lake has been revamped with a new walkway and much bigger spillway. Although the Daylesford Lake originally had a swimming area (the change rooms are still there) it is not recommended any more. The lake is very deep and has cold currents that can disable you very quickly.

A better way to explore the lake is on a paddleboat, you don't get wet (well not much) and you can traverse the lake safely. My favorite way of exploring the Daylesford Lake is visually from the deck of the Boathouse with the scent of a cappuccino in front of me.

It takes approximately half an hour to walk around Lake Daylesford and an extra 15 minutes if you want to venture on the other side of the road bridge (is it just me or are they trying to hide the other half from the public and keep it for the expensive accommodation views). The walk is not great for the disabled due to uneven ground. There tends to be frequent unleashed dogs so don't wear your Sunday Best.

The Daylesford Lake used to be lit up all the way around the path so a refreshing evening stroll could be enjoyed by all and a relatively safe swimming area was provided with changing rooms - and it was a popular swimming destination. But those times have sadly passed. (but where's the profit in that I suppose)

Not much in Daylesford is free so take advantage of this beautiful spot. Do take some bread, as Lake Daylesford has plenty of friendly, hungry ducks, water fowl and swans.
