Apollo Bay
Around 180 kms from Melbourne on the Great Ocean Road is the popular seaside resort of Apollo Bay. It is nestled in the the foothills of the Otway Ranges . The local population is around 2,000 which swells with incoming visitors. The town has a crescent shaped sandy beach, great for swimming with a magnificent backdrop of the green Otway hills. |
Ballarat
Ballarat is Victoria's second largest regional centre and only around 75 minutes drive from Melbourne. Over 84,000 people live in this vibrant rural city. Major attractions include the Begonia Festival (held each year at Lake Wendouree in March), Sovereign Hill and the Eureka Stockade. |
Bendigo
Bendigo offers restored Victorian-era architecture dating back to the "Gold Rush" Bendigo with abundant with sandstone buildings, 100 year old gardens and large shade trees. The first thing you notice is the tree lined streets and amazing buildings leading you to the central Alexandra Fountain. Trams still operate in Bendigo and you won't want to miss out on a "talking tram tour". |
Daylesford
Daylesford is a little over an hour from Victoria's capital in the Central Highlands. The region is known as spa country as over 70% of Victoria's mineral water comes from this area. Daylesford is a haven for massage, spa and indulgence. Daylesford and Hepburn Springs are reputed to have more massage and beauty therapists in one location than anywhere else in Australia. |
Geelong
Geelong, overlooking Corio bay offers waterfront views in luxury accommodation with many restaurants situated on the waters edge. No visit to Geelong would be complete without a walk (or cycle) along the wide paths that lead the length of the many beaches finishing at Eastern Beach and the Geelong Botanical Gardens. |
Goldfields
The Victorian Goldfields are the legacy from the discovery of gold in Victoria's central region in the 1800s. The townships include Avoca, Ballarat, Bendigo, Castlemaine, Clunes, Creswick, Dunolly, Maldon, Maryborough and Heathcote. It is an area rich in history with much of the past wealth on display especially in the Victorian streetscapes of Bendigo and Ballarat. |
Melbourne
Melbourne is the capital of Victoria and offers everything you would expect of a major city. Staging some of the best sporting events and theatre performances, Melbourne is the cultural hub of Australia. The Melbourne Comedy Festival, Moomba, the Tennis, Melbourne Cup, Formula One Racing - if there's a major festival on it's probably going to be here. |
Queenscliff
Queenscliff, a seaside resort on the Bellarine Peninsula is a very popular beachside destination steeped in a rich heritage characterised by elegant hotels, guesthouses, galleries, restaurants, cafes, a fine golf course, ferries and wide streets with terraced houses. It has both bay and surf beaches. |
Warrnambool
Warrnambool is around 270 kms from Melbourne travelling along the Great Ocean Road . It has a population around 30, 000 and is the only city on the Shipwreck Coast .
Warrnambool is Victoria's southern right whale nursery with the visiting whales seen at Logan's Beach every May to October sometimes seen only 100 metres off the shore.
