I have been finding it very hard to get a decent cake and coffee lately - disappointed in several towns over the last few weeks. My faith was finally restored in the main street of Daylesford, Vincent Street with a devonshire tea at Sweet Decadence. Two near perfect mineral water scones with plenty of jam and cream to put on top. Fortunately for my partner the chocolate hedgehogs were back on the menu and were superb. Accompanied by two very well made cappuccinos and a good time was had by all.

Cliffy's Emporium
Cliffy's is a delicatessen and cafe next to the Daylesford local nursery. The building used to house the local bike repair shop among other things and adds a lot of character to the cafe.  Mostly aimed at the coffee and light meal crowd, Cliffy's is a must visit when in Daylesford.  A large selection of breads, meats and condiments compliment the delicious menu, so you can always take some with you.  They used to have a sign stating "we do not do breakfasts" but I believe they have finally recanted.  Dining inside is colorful surrounded by various artworks or you can relax outside under the wide verandah.

Food Gallery Café-Bar
The Food Gallery is on the sunny side of the street in Daylesford catching the afternoon sun and it likes you to know it. Above the doorway is a large golden sun with a smiley face to greet you as enter the cafe.  You can sit outside under the verandah (fresh in the cooler months) or sit inside and enjoy the pleasant ambiance.

Daylesford Seafood Bar
I find this place to be the best fish and chip shop I have ever been to.  It's also one of the best places to buy fresh oysters.  I recommend phoning your order if you can as they are always busy (and as we all know 10 minutes is really 20).  Sure fish and chips are no good for you but if you are going to stack on the kilos it might as well taste this good.

The Farmers Arms
The Farmers Arms is a local pub offering meals a bit more upmarket than your average.  Very popular with locals and visitors.  The food is aimed at the Melbourne market (so it's very good), the have a good wine selection and the setting is warm and inviting.

Bad Habits Cafe (@ the Convent)
A great place to have breakfast or lunch before exploring the Convent Gallery.  The views from the windows over the town are magnificent and it's a pleasure sitting at the tables amongst palm trees and artwork while dining.  Coffee and cake available and their open 7 days.

Black Cauldron Café
Opposite the Post Office in the Main Street (well down the hill a little bit towards the lake). One of the best places in the town for breakfast, not that there lunches aren't good too.  Very friendly and good service combined extremely cheap prices make it a must try on your next trip to Daylesford.  I recommend the Eggs Manhattan.

Breakfast & Beer
Breakfast all day and you don't have to have beer with it (not that there's anything wrong with that).  Quite a trendy hangout just down from the post office again.  If you don't want breakfast or beer they also serve coffee all day as well.

Café 3460
Surrounded by a specialist nursery Cafe 3460 houses crafts, art and photographs and other goodies as well as offering "Old favourites, new taste delights, cakes, preserves."  Take advantage of the discount lunches Tues to Thurs. Extremely good devonshire teas with good quality coffee.

The Boathouse
On a sunny day overlooking Lake Daylesford there is nowhere better to eat. It's not that the food or service is better than anywhere else - it's location, location, location. The cafe/restaurant is not just overlooking the lake but literally over it.  The Boathouse cafe was built out over the edge and offers views of the lake and surrounds like nowhere else in Daylesford.

Sweet Decadance @ Locantro
The original chocolate factory in Daylesford and still my favorite.  Sweet Decadence at Locantro have been operating in the main street of Daylesford since 1983.  To survive in a competitive town like this you must be doing something right.  Sweet Decadence was the first coffee shop in Daylesford and the first the first handmade chocolate shop in country Victoria.

d'bar
Upstairs at the Town Hall Cafe.  Started as a nightclub but has settled into a restaurant specialising in Mediterranean cuisine.  Open for lunches and dinner.  Music on Saturday nights.

The Altar Bar & Lounge (@ the Convent)
This a very nice location where you can sit outside and enjoy the gardens with views over Daylesford. There is a good selection of goodies to go with your coffee and light snacks and of course and extensive wine list.  They only seem to be open on weekends as I have wasted several trips midweek.  I would let you know the proper hours but still awaiting reply to my emails.
