I have been finding it very hard to get a decent cake and coffee lately - disappointed in several towns over the last few weeks. My faith was finally restored in the main street of Daylesford, Vincent Street with a devonshire tea at Sweet Decadence. Two near perfect mineral water scones with plenty of jam and cream to put on top. Fortunately for my partner the chocolate hedgehogs were back on the menu and were superb. Accompanied by two very well made cappuccinos and a good time was had by all.

Had a disappointing evening in Daylesford during the Labor Day Weekend. A 40th birthday was blaring from 9pm so loud you could hear it inside where I was staying. Hot night, widows closed, white noise to block the sound and still nothing. Tried the police at 10:30 and 12:30 but they thought it was reasonable to party no matter how much it affects others and they were busy with paperwork as well. This is a town people travel to relax and have a peaceful environment. Council and police need to get their heads together and set standards before they lose their grip on the relaxation market.

I find it a curiosity that Daylesford is one of the few towns that makes pedestrians give way to motor vehicles.  It actually states it in the main street.  Supposedly a pedestrian crossing is going to be placed in the main street but goodness knows when.  If you are elderly make sure you wear your runners.  Part of the trouble is everyone is so, so stressed.  People are in such a hurry to get to the next place and mellow out they almost run you down.  Daylesford has a very relaxing energy.  If you are well attuned you can pick it up well before you hit the main town, but not if you are rushing.  Sure the town has great coffee, accommodation and spas, but breath in the surrounds - you are smack in the middle of the Wombat State Forest.  Look around, slow down, enjoy and let that pedestrian cross safely while you are in the comfort of your great car.
