 A View on Castlemaine

Castlemaine is a rural town around an hour from Melbourne along the Calder Highway.  It is a vibrant town with restaurants, cafes, accommodation and even it's own Movie Theatre.  It is known as the hotrod capital of Australia and is home to the Castlemaine Gaol.

How long has it been since you last went to Castlemaine?  I am heading over to Castlemaine again next week and always look forward to it.  I am a lover of Vanilla Slices and this town has the best.  The easiest is to go to the Coffee Bean in the main street because they are really, really good.  But if you want to try the vanilla slice the locals rave about you have to go to a little shop just out of town called (you will have to wait because I forgot the name).

Must Try Dining

The Coffee Bean Cafe & Deli
Located in the main street of Castlemaine on the Bendigo end.  A very good range of cakes and treats to go with your coffee as well as light lunches.  They're in a new location that is bright and stylish.  Always offering very good value dining.  It can get crowded and a bit noisy but that's part of the charm.

Must Try Shopping

XXXX Antique Complex
Quite an amazing place.  A very large selection of new cast iron furniture, statues and fountains.  Most are out of my price bracket, but not all.  They also have a great selection of antiques including dining tables, early Victorian sideboards, cabinets, bedroom furniture, period pine and oak furniture and much more.  Car collectables, art deco, you name it, they seem to have it.
